Apparel Sample Lifecycle: Proto Sample vs. Fit Sample vs. Pre-Production (PP) Sample

Demystifying the critical sampling milestones required from concept brief to bulk production authorization.

Navigating the garment sampling workflow is vital for maintaining delivery deadlines. Proto samples test basic styling, fabric hand-feel, and initial pattern interpretation.

Fit samples evaluate garment drape, body proportions, and size grading accuracy on live fit models or 3D digital avatars. Any pattern modifications must be locked in during this stage.

Pre-Production (PP) samples represent exact bulk production conditions—using final bulk fabric, approved trims, wash recipes, and care labels. Approval at the PP Meeting signals green light for fabric cutting.
